The Fusion Fluid Equipment folding impeller is most commonly used in applications where access to the vessel is limited, such as drum mixers and tote mixers. Fusion's folding impeller design is essentially a two-bladed, pitch blade turbine impeller, where the blades fold down against the shaft when not in use. The folding design allows the impeller and shaft to be inserted and retracted through the entry hole of the vessel to be mixed.
Fusion provides two folding impeller designs. The Bung Style Folding Impeller is designed specifically to fit through a 2" NPT Bung Hole typically found in drum lids. Fusion's design allows the impeller to slide up the shaft allowing for dual impellers on a shafts up to 3/4"OD. The Tote Style Folding Impeller is designed specifically to fit through the hole typically found on IBC totes. Fusion's Tote Style Folding Impeller allows the impeller to slide up the shaft allowing for dual impellers on shafts up to 1" OD. Fusion can also design and produce custom folding impellers to address access problems specific to your application.
The Folding Impeller provides a combination of both radial and axial flow, generates high shear levels, and provides excellent mixing ability while allowing easy mixer installation and removal. The Folding Impeller comes standard in 316 Stainless Steel, but 304 Stainless Steel, Aluminum, Solid Teflon, and Carbon Steel versions are also possible. Various surface finishes are available too.
